Google has long communicated that Meta descriptions are not a ranking factor anymore. Therefore we are recommending anyone that is creating websites to use the Meta description to attract visitors and not to SEO optmize. Here is a good example of a Meta description:

Which basically means adding the most important keywords in the meta name=keywords tag. Even though Google said its not a ranking factor we still strongly advice on using them to make sure Google understands what topic your webpage is about.
It is important that your website has all things in place about onpage seo, namingly that the keyword you want to rank for is in the URL, Title as well as h1 of the website. Also the keyword should be in the content a few times. We also think it definitely makes sense to use a meta description though not to optimize for search engines but for the user.
